Where JC1 & JC2 GP Learning Meets Real Journalism
Hi, I’m Soo Sien, ex-broadcaster from national media network and a CELTA-certified General Paper tutor with over 19 years of teaching and mentoring experience.
I don’t teach General Paper like a school subject to memorise.
I teach it the way broadcast journalists think, question, and write under pressure.
That’s why my GP classes are different.
Small online groups (max 6-8 students)
JC1 & JC2 tracks
Personal marking & feedback
90% of my students improve their GP grades within months
Why So Many JC Students Struggle with GP (And Why It’s Not Their Fault)
Over the years, I’ve met many bright, hardworking students who feel stuck in GP.
Parents often tell me:
“My child reads a lot, but her essays don’t score.”
“He panics when he sees the AQ or unfamiliar questions.”
“She knows the content, but can’t structure her answers.”
GP isn’t testing intelligence.
It tests clarity of thought, judgement, and real-world awareness.
How My GP Classes Work (And Why They’re Effective)
I run small, focused online GP classes designed for real improvement, not tuition factory teaching.
Here’s what students get:
Clear Thinking Frameworks: I train students to break down questions, identify what examiners are really asking, and respond with clarity, especially under time pressure.
Personal Marking & Feedback: Every essay, comprehension, and AQ is marked by me personally. Students know exactly what to improve and how.
Structured Roadmap for JC1 & JC2 : JC1: Build foundations without feeling overwhelmed — thinking skills, content development, and structured writing.
JC2: Targeted exam strategies, gap-plugging, and confidence building for the final stretch.
Small Groups, Real Participation : Classes are capped at 8 students. Everyone speaks. Everyone gets feedback.
Real-World, Relevant Examples: I use current global and local issues — not outdated notes. Students learn how to select, adapt, and apply examples effectively in essays and AQ.
What I Focus On in Class
I help students master both GP papers.
Essay planning and argument development
AQ strategies that actually work
SAQ - short answer question techniques
Critical thinking and evaluation skills
Writing clearly, concisely, and confidently
By exam time, students have a toolkit, not just notes.
About Me – Your Tutor

Here’s my background:
Senior Producer-Presenter at Singapore’s national media network.

MSc Geography & BSc Geography (King’s College, University of London)

But more than credentials, I believe in this:
If you can think clearly and express yourself well, doors open.
That’s what I teach — calmly, firmly, and step by step.
When students join my class, I don’t just coach them academically. I guide them, challenge their thinking, and build their confidence especially when GP feels intimidating.
